The official portal of the CBSE still displays expired affiliation status of as many as 60 city schools. However, when the District Education Officer checked with the schools, it came to the fore that the CBSE has not updated its official website. The affiliation status of some schools has not been updated since 2008.
Monica Maini, Deputy District Education Officer, Chandigarh, is still shown as the Principal of Government School, Sector 8 on the website. While the schools principals have blamed the CBSE for not updating their affiliation status, the regional office of the board said the schools might not have applied for the renewal of affiliation within the stipulated time frame.
Recently, when the District Education Officer (DEO) sought records of affiliation status from the school principals, it came to light that they have already deposited their affiliation fee, but their status has not been updated on the portal. However, as per the board’s website, Govt Model High School, Khudda Jassu, and Govt High School, Sector 41, affiliation expired in 2015 and March 31, 2010, respectively. Both schools deposited their affiliation fee up till 2020. Karnail Singh, Regional Officer, Panchkula, said, “It’s mentioned in the CBSE affiliation by-laws that the school has to apply within the specific time. Until it is decided by the board, the affiliation will remain valid. The update on the website is made as and when the file is processed by the board. This doesn’t mean that the school is not affiliated with the board; they just have to apply timely for renewal.”
