Mohali: Recovery of some ancient remains, including two parts of grinding stones (chakki), pieces of pottery, a stone crusher and other such old artefacts from 150-year-old Gigemajra village, located along the Landran-Banur road, is certainly a matter of curiosity for the villagers.
- If area residents are to be believed, these might belong to some ancient village. The principal of local Government Senior Secondary School, Harinder Kaur, and teacher Harpal Singh claimed that along with the artefacts, a seven-foot deep tunnel-like pit had also surfaced during leveling of the ground at the back of the school.
- As per elderly residents of the village, they have not seen any human habitation at the site before the coming up of the school.
- Ninety-year-old Hukam Chand, a resident of the village, claimed,”Many decades ago, a cellar was also found at the site. On the cellar, a temple was erected. The cellar might have been found during some excavation but I am not sure about it.
- Harpal Singh said, “The tunnel-like pit has two underground openings but nobody has dared to enter it so far. The recovery of artefacts certainly calls for further investigation by experts.” —Akash Ghai
