Amandeep takes early lead

In form Amandeep Drall carded a par-71 to gain a three-shot lead on the opening day of the 12th leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour at the Hyderabad Golf Club on Wednesday.  

The Panchkula golfer, who has won three titles in her last four outing on the Tour, kept her foot on the pedal and did not let go of the form as she recovered well in time to produce the best card of the day.  

Amandeep opened the day with a bogey and then ran a string of pars all the way till the seventh, which she birdied. The 25-year-old dropped another shot on the par-4 ninth, but produced a bogey-free back nine with a birdie on the 17th to stay three shots clear of Tvesa Malik and Sonam Chugh. The duo shot an identical 74 to share the second place. 

Millie Saroha and Suchitra Ramesh were tied-fourth with a card of 5-over 76, while amateur Sneha Singh shared the sixth position with Siddhi Kapoor and Khushi Khanijau, who had a good outing in the 11th leg. They shot a 77 each.

Tvesa seemed to have problems on the greens. She dropped four bogeys before finding her only birdie of the day on the 18th for a card of 74. 

Sonam dropped three shots between the seventh and the 11th holes. She also had a double bogey on the par-4 16th. However, the she birdied the 14th and the 17th holes share the second spot with Tvesa.  

Due to incessant rains which eased only yesterday, the course was challenging today, with strong winds making the conditions more difficult. With not too many birdies recorded, the players will be hoping for more favourable conditions on Thursday.

Afshan Fatima and Ayesha Kapur, who were ninth and 10th, respectively, after the first round, will go out first on Thursday while Siddhi and Khushi will follow them. The third group has amateur Sneha Singh, Suchitra and Millie and the lead group with Sonam, Tvesa and Amandeep will tee off last.
