English debate contest

Patiala: The British Co-Ed High School, Patiala, organised the Inter-House English debate competition for the middle school. The topic of the debate was ‘Living in the virtual world; aren’t we losing our identities?’ The debate was judged by founder-principal Rosa Kucharshyj. Students gave strong arguments for the motion emphasising that the virtual world was merely an escape from reality, which leads to an isolation. Any person who gets too much involved in the virtual world has no time for his family, drifts away from academics, sports and unable to gain the real of oneself and his hidden qualities. In contrast, debaters against the motion said virtual world enhances the range of imagination and was an aid to scientific innovations and discoveries. Tolstoy House bagged the first position, Teresa House stood second and Tagore House won the third spot. Gursehaj Gosal of Class VII-RN was declared the best speaker. Principal Kiran Harika congratulated the winners and gave valuable inputs to the students about the art of debating at the end. OC
