Fatehgarh Sahib, June 18
Tension prevailed in Bassi Pathana after three stray cattle allegedly poisoned by some miscreants were found dead today.
As soon as the news spread, residents began to assemble on the spot. They took out a protest march in the town and submitted a memorandum to SDM DS Johal and DSP Sukhwinder Singh and asked them to nab the culprits at the earliest.
Ramesh Gupta, president, Municipal Council-cum-Gaushala Bassi Pathana, alleged that in order to disturb peace, last night some miscreants offered poisonous substance to the stray cattle.
He said the morning walkers noticed dead stray cattle near a transformer. He said Pankaj Chawla, a veterinary doctor has told that the cows died after consuming a poisonous substance. He said they would observe complete bandh on June 20 if the miscreants were not nabbed.
Rajkamal, president, Ramlila Committee and a social worker demanded that the government should enact a strict law against the ones who leave their cattles on the roads.
The SDM said it was an unfortunate incident and expressed hope to arrest the culprits soon.
