J&K Tourism showcases new travel circuits in Ludhiana
J&K Tourism participated in the three-day tourism exhibition organised in Ludhiana by India Travel Mart from August 18 to 20. The Jammu & Kashmir Tourism delegation enhanced the scope of making all three regions viz-a-viz Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as tourism destinations for travellers. Leading the delegation, Dr Umesh Shan, Assistant Director Tourism, J&K, invited global travellers, particularly the people of Punjab to experience the spirit of J&K in a new way. He talked about the significance of new tourist circuits and also deliberated upon the upgraded tourism infrastructure in the state.

Medanta — The Medicity opens liver clinic at Ludhiana

Fortis Ludhiana conducts first Cochlear implant on 1-yr-old baby
Fortis Hospital Ludhiana successfully operated and gave a new lease of life to one-year-old Chakshit Bansal, who was deaf and dumb since birth. Dr Rajat Bhatia, Consultant (ENT), decided to perform cochlear implant surgery, the first-of-its-kind across the chain of Fortis hospitals in North India. The surgery was conducted at Fortis Ludhiana on July 21. The implant was checked intra operatively and was found to be functional and normal.
IIT Delhi sets up virtual labs at Bhag Singh university
The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, has established nodal centre of Virtual Labs at Sant Baba Bhag Singh University. Virtual laboratory is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development under the National Mission of Education through ICT. It is a tool for distance learning and/or experimentation that allows people to share knowledge, data, voice, video, tools, and many other resources. It provides a suitable environment to extend, improve, integrate, refine, and assist the learning and/or experimentation process of many subjects, thus contributing to an increase of the effectiveness of scientific research and widening the use of scarce or costly equipment.
J&K Bank’s ATM network grows to 1,126
J&K Bank has commissioned two more ATMs - one at Pulwama and the other at Kathua. The total number of ATMs has gone up to 1,126 consisting of a strong network of 1,033 ATMs in J&K alone. While the bank's Executive President, SS Sehgal, inaugurated the ATM near the main gate of M/s Chenab Textile Mills in Kathua, Pulwama Deputy Commissioner GM Dar inaugurated the ATM at Qasbayar, Pulwama.

DPS, Jammu, organises poem recitation competition
DPS Jammu organised 'Hindi Recitation Competition' on August 17 for the students of preparatory classes. Students participated in the competition with great zeal and conveyed their thoughts, feelings and love for their motherland through poems. Seerat Chouhan and Arna Kohli of Class Prep A won the first prize. Second prize was bagged by Kamya Gupta of Prep C and Vaydeesh of Prep A while third prize was shared by Namish Gupta of Prep E and Samoon Anjum Mir of Prep C.
Triplets born at Dr Sumita Sofat Infertility Hospital

J&K Bank mourns death of its former Chairman MS Qureshi
J&K Bank has condoled the demise of its former Chairman Mohammad Syed Qureshi who passed away in Srinagar on August 19. Parvez Ahmed, Chairman & CEO, J&K Bank, and the Board of Directors of the bank expressed heart-felt condolences with the bereaved family. Qureshi, an IAS officer, was the Chairman of the bank from October 1989 till November 1992.
