Bathinda, June 29
Rajdeep Kaur, a resident of Poohli village, has accused SHO Nehiwala Mahinderjit Singh of harassing her for dowry.
She said on September 13, 2013, she got married to Gagandeep Singh, son of Mahinderjit Singh, a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar in Bathinda. Her family had spent Rs 22 lakh on her marriage and on November 6, 2014, she gave birth to a baby boy.
She alleged that her husband and in-laws were greedy as they started to tell her to bring Rs 10 lakh or a new car from her parents and when she told them that her parents can’t fulfil their demand, then they all beat her up badly and she was thrown out of their house. But later, a compromise was effected in panchayat and she again started living in her in-laws house.
She said on June 21, her father-in-law and mother-in-law abused and beat her up. While next day on June 22, her husband beat her up and with an intent to kill her but he pressed her neck badly and her husband attacked her with sharp-edged weapon.
Rajdeep claimed that to save her life, she started running out of the house along with her son. Her husband chased her and he snatched away her child from her. After this, she called her parents on phone and informed them about the incident and then they reached the house of their in law.
Then her father-in-law, who is an SHO, misusing his power, got her father Harbans Singh and brother Gurvinder Singh along with their neighbour Manjit Singh arrested and under pressure they were booked in a false case under Sections 452, 323, 506, 34 of the IPC at Thermal police station.
No action has been taken on her complaint lodged against the SHO Mahinderjit Singh and his family for harassing and beating her up for dowry.
SHO Nehianwala Mahinderjit Singh, refuting the allegation, said Rajdeep Kaur was fabricating the story to save her fathe and brother who had been booked in the case at Thermal police station as her brother Gurvinder beat his son up on June 22.
He said they had all the records in writing as earlier, while reaching a compromise, they agreed that there was no dowry issue. He also claimed that Rajdeep used to talk with the boys over the phone and they had all the phone recording and call details.
He said the girl and her parents want her to marry a co-teacher.
