A fresh spell of snowfall on hills of Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kangra and Kinnaur began showing its effects on Bathinda and its adjoining areas today. Following the drastic change in weather in the upper reaches of the Himalayas, this region also felt the nip in the air today.

With the sun playing hide-and-seek through the day, residents of Bathinda could now hope for the chill to continue for at least two more days. In its forecast for the next two-three days, the weather department expressed the possibility that similar weather may continue on Monday as well and there were also chances of the region receiving light rainfall on Monday.

Overcast in most parts of the region also caused day temperature to drop by several degrees. While on Saturday, the maximum temperature had been recorded at 32.4°C, cool breeze lashing the region caused it to plummet to 26.4°C on Sunday. The minimum temperature however, rose from Saturday’s 15.4°C to be recorded at 21.4°C on Sunday.

As per the Punjab Agriculture University’s regional centre in Bathinda, western disturbance could also be blamed for the sudden change in the weather conditions in the region. Weather expert at the regional centre opined that the chill in the air would continue till the time the western disturbance was effective in the region.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department, the region may experience overcast conditions over the week. In its forecast released for this week, the IMD predicted that the region may witness thunderstorm with rains and partly cloudy skies over the next four days and mainly clear sky on the days after that. It also predicted that while the maximum temperature in the region will be recorded around 30°C this week, the minimum temperature would be recorded at around 18°C.
