Acting on the statement of the SHO, Lambi police station, the police have booked gangster-turned-activist Lakha Sidhana and 60-70 unidentified persons for violating law and order at Badal village, attempting to kill some cops on duty there.
Notably, some Sikh panthik organisations had on Wednesday taken out a protest march from Bargari village to Badal village to appeal to masses to defeat Badals in the general election. They were stopped by the police from entering the village as the District Magistrate had banned the gathering of five or more persons under Section 144 of the CrPC. However, when the cops stopped them at the barricades put up at the entrance of the village, the protesters jumped and entered the village.
“Further, Lakha Sidhana, who was heading the protesters, hit his Scorpio vehicle into the barricade. The protesters were carrying sharp-edged weapons as well. A case has been registered in this regard,” said Inspector Bikramjeet Singh, SHO, Lambi police station.
He further said a woman constable was even injured.
Meanwhile, Manjit Singh Dhesi, SSP, Muktsar, said, “We had made proper security arrangements and even sent an SP-level officer there. Besides, barricading was done. The protesters not only disturbed the law and order situation, but also attempted to kill cops. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way. As of now, one person by name and some unidentified persons have been booked. We had on Wednesday night conducted raids, but could not arrest anyone.”
About the scuffle between two factions of the protesters outside the former CM’s residence, he said no one had given them a complaint, so that was not included in the FIR. “If someone files a complaint, we will act in that regard as well,” said the SSP.
Notably, a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharging duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 188 (defying the ban order issued by the District Magistrate), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), and Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC and Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Lambi police station.
