Bathinda, October 22
The Bathinda railway station, which is one of the biggest junctions in Asia, is all set to install 90 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras all around the city railway station. The total number of cameras will add to the current strength of only seven.
Station Superintendent Ramswaroop Meena confirmed that very soon the city railway station would come under the surveillance of the new CCTV cameras, which will be of great help to the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Railway authorities confirmed that the number of CCTVs was being increased to have an overall view of the railway station instead of small portions under the existing system.
According to information available, the proposal for 90 CCTV cameras sent by the Bathinda Railway authorities has been accepted by the higher authorities at Ambala Railway Division. A formal order was expected shortly.
On being asked about the status of non-functional CCTV cameras at the moment, he said, “Two CCTV cameras of the Government Railway Police (GRP) are lying non-functional. The station has five more cameras and all are in a working condition.”
On the other hand, GRP Station House Officer (SHO) Harjinder Singh refuted the claims of the cameras working made by the Station Superintendent. He said, “Most of the time, whenever we needed to check the footage of two previous days, we were never provided any inputs despite repeated requests and reminders.”
