Bathinda, November 28
The authorities have finally initiated the process to paint rumble strips and repair them on the city roads, which will facilitate a safe ride for commuters.
The action followed a report published in these columns on November 24. The move will help reduce the number of accidents, which were caused as commuters could not spot the rumble strips on the road in time. Painted rumble strips will enable them to slow down at a safe distance.
Parmod Aggarwal, a city resident, said, “Besides commuters, it will also ensure safe ride for ambulances, which are often driven at high speed in order to rush patients to the hospital.”
Sunil Kumar, a resident of Bharat Nagar, said, “It is good that the rumble strips are being painted, but the authorities concerned should also install a signboard cautioning the commuters about it.
Gurmeet Singh, DSP (Traffic), said, “It is the task of the Municipal Corporation and the BDR authorities to outline the setting of a signage board, but we will certainly raise this issue with them.”
According to norms, the rumble strips made on the road should have 3.7-metre length and the width should be 0.10 metres. These should be painted on and before a hump, a signage board should be fixed so that commuters can see that there is a hump ahead and can reduce the speed of their vehicles in time.
