Two men aged 35 and 26 died of suspected drug overdose on Tuesday in Faridkot.

Both residents of Sanjay Nagar, an area mostly inhabited by daily wagers in the town, Harjinder Singh and Sukhjit Singh alias Sunny died at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital and Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

They were admitted to the hospitals after they had allegedly taken heavy dose of some drugs intravenously and fell unconscious.

Though the family members of the deceased declined to attribute their death to drug overdose, the postmortem of both gave strong indications of them consuming some drugs.

The family members of Harjinder Singh claimed that he was under debt and for this reason he committed suicide.

The family of Sukhjit Singh said he was ill and died a natural death due to illness. However, they declined to share the details of the illness.

However, Jaimal Singh, a maternal uncle of Harjinder Singh, admitted that drug overdose led to his nephew’s death.

Four year ago, the elder brother of Harjinder Singh had also died due to drug addiction.

Sanjay Nagar locality, where mostly daily wagers and migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh live, is known for high prevalence of drugs.
