Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Sunday marked the 11th anniversary of her ‘Nanhi Chhaan’ movement by appealing people to plant at least 13 saplings in every village.
Meanwhile, former CM Parkash Singh Badal, along with his son Sukhbir Singh Badal and daughter-in-law Harsimrat, launched a plantation drive by planting saplings at his residence in Badal village.
Parkash Singh Badal said: “I appeal to all Punjabis to plant at least one sapling at their house. A sarpanch in our area buried the ashes of his father in a pit and planted a sapling there. It is a welcome step and a big change. It will keep the memories of the person alive forever.”
Harsimrat Kaur Badal said: “The ‘nanhi chhaan’ movement has got a huge success in these 11 years. Around 30 lakh saplings have been distributed and planted under this movement. The skewed daughter ratio has also improved. We have distributed sewing machines among women to make them self-sustaining. Now, to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, I appeal to all villages in my area to plant at least 13 saplings in each village. These saplings should be planted by elderly residents or young daughters to keep their memories alive.”
Meanwhile, a number of SAD leaders planted saplings under the movement and uploaded photos on social media to inspire others.
