The Mansa police on Saturday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of thieves with the arrest of six persons. The police also recovered a .32 bore pistol, along two bullets, and sharp weapons.
Mansa SSP Dr Narinder Bhargava said the suspects were arrested with the weapons when they were planning to execute their next move.
The SSP said the police had received a tip-off that the suspects were planning to loot people.
The suspects have been identified as Jagsir Singh, alias Laden; Jiwan Singh of Gamiwala; Mamu of Boha; Birbal Singh of Boha; Nachatar Singh of Faridke village; and Bhagwant Singh, alias Mahant, of Ratia (Haryana).
A case under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the suspects at the Budhlada police station.
The SSP said as many as 19 cases of murder, loot, theft and drugs were registered against them in Punjab and Haryana. “In preliminary investigation, it has come to the fore that they were planning to loot money from those who were returning after selling their crop. They will be presented in a court and the police will try to take their remand for further investigation,” the SSP added.
