Gang of thieves busted, six arrested

The Bathinda police today claimed to have busted a gang of motorcycle thieves by arresting its six members.
The police have recovered seven stolen motorcycles, jewellery and weapons from their possession.
Addressing a press conference, SP (D) Bikramjit Singh said to stop the rising incidents of thefts, a team was constituted under DSP (special branch) Gurpreet Singh to arrest these accused.
He said the CIA team had done special barricading at Talwandi-Maur road near Jodhpur Pakhar, where they got a secret tip off that Babbu Singh, Hardeep Singh, Roshan Singh, Dhanjit Singh, Ravi Kumar and Gurpyar Singh were present near Burj Mansa village and preparing for some robbery.
Thereafter, the police conducted a raid and arrested the accused. However, two members of the gang managed to flee from the spot.
He said one .315 bore pistol with two rounds, two pistols 12 bore with four rounds, one toy pistol, one air-gun, one sharp-edged weapon, seven motorcycles, three batteries, three invertors, three purses, six mobile phones, Rs 21,000 in cash and two pairs of gold earrings were recovered from their possession.
The total cost of the material recovered by the police is Rs 3 lakh.
Bikramjit Singh said Babbu Singh, the kingpin of the gang, was an illiterate and earlier, he was involved in wrestling.
He has been declared proclaimed offender in a case of brawl registered against him at the Maur police station.
