Children with dengue treated with other patients

TRIBUNE NEWS SERVICEBATHINDA: The children suffering from dengue have started visiting the Women and Children Hospital for treatment but the Health Department does not seem to be prepared to tackle the disease.

Tribune News ServiceBathinda, October 27

The children suffering from dengue have started visiting the Women and Children Hospital for treatment but the Health Department does not seem to be prepared to tackle the disease.

In the absence of a separate dengue ward, children affected with dengue are admitted to the children’s ward along with patients of other diseases.

The hospital authorities said dengue patients had started coming for treatment. Patients requiring only critical care are admitted to the hospital while others are administered medicines and asked to take rest.

There were two dengue patients admitted to the hospital. However, the authorities concerned have not shared the exact number of children affected with dengue this season.

The mother of a dengue patient said there was no special ward for dengue patients at the hospital and her daughter had been kept in the same ward where patients of other diseases were admitted.

A group of parents whose children were admitted to the children’s ward also said considering that dengue patients come in comparatively in large numbers these days, the Health Department officials could have better anticipated and arranged for a special ward for dengue patients.

Sukhjinder Singh Gill, Senior Medical Officer, Women and Children Hospital, said, “Dengue patients have started coming for treatment at the hospital. We have shortage of staff as of now, so we have kept the dengue patients in the children ward.”
