The Chetak Corps organised an event to commemorate the 46th anniversary of Vijay Diwas at the Bathinda Military Station here today.

The event began with a wreath-laying ceremony at Yodha Yaadgar War Memorial. Lt Gen PC Thimmaya, General Officer Commanding, Chetak Corps, and officers paid tributes to the soldiers who took part in the 1971 war and sacrificed their life for the country.

Vijay Diwas is commemorated on December 16 to mark India’s victory over Paktistan during the 1971 war.

The war resulted in the unilateral and unconditional surrender of the Pakistan Army and birth of Bangladesh.

On this day in 1971, General Amir Abdullah Khan Naizi, along with approximately 93,000 troops, surrendered to the Indian Army led by Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Arora.
