Baisakhi Mela ends on colourful note

The three-day Baisakhi Mela, which attracted a large number of devotees from all over the country and abroad, concluded on Monday.

A magnificent display of martial art skills by large numbers of Nihangs in a procession led by horsemen and Nihangs on horses marked the last day of the Baisakhi festival at Talwandi Sabo here. The procession of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib culminated at Gurdwara Malha Sahib.

At the headquarters of Budha Dal, religious diwan was organized in the morning and in the evening a procession was taken out from Ber Sahib to Takht Damdama Sahib which was headed by the Chief Budha Dal Baba Balbir Singh.

This year the “moholla”, led by Baba Balbir Singh, chief of Budda Dal started from Ber Sahib located near the Chhauni (cantonment) of Nihangs. After Ber Sahib, the “moholla” went to Mahalsar Sahib Gurdwara and Takht Damdama Sahib.

Khalsa army of Nihangs who assembled here in thousands dressed in their traditional blue and saffron dresses, played “gatka” (martial art) and demonstrated their horsemanship. The display of martial arts like gatka and horsemanship by the Nihangs attracted a large number of people.

A large number of police personnel was deployed at the spot and even SSP Dr Nanak Singh was also present. A large number of security personnel were deployed as various factions of the Nihang groups participated in this and to avoid any untoward incident between them.
