SAD patriarch and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday said he would file nominations as the covering candidate of his daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal from Bathinda parliamentary constituency.

While talking to mediapersons in Lambi, the 91-year-old said “I will file the papers as a covering candidate of Harsimrat as she has asked me to do so and I can’t say no to her. But I am not contesting the elections.”

Notably, Badal had on Friday gone to Varanasi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nominations. Thus, he could not accompany Harsimrat while filing her nominations in Bathinda.

He said Modi would definitely become the Prime Minister again. “There is a wave in his favour and workers are excited. He has no competition,” Badal claimed.

Taking a dig on Congress candidate from Ferozepur Sher Singh Ghubaya, Badal said Sukhbir had got a lead of 600 votes in the former’s own village in Assembly polls. “Ghubaya may be claiming victory but this is the record,” he said.

He criticised the Congress candidate from Bathinda seat, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, by saying “They are now stooping too low by offering money to people but the residents of this area are honest and loyal. They (the opponents) won’t be successful in their attempts.”

About some Congressmen in Lambi saying that after the elections, nobody comes to even ask about their well-being, the five-time Chief Minister said “The Congress leaders don’t have any interest here. However, we treat everyone like our family and visit almost every house.”
