Park to be turned into parking lot
The Shaheed Udham Singh Park in the Sachkhand Road locality of Tarn Taran is all set to be converted into a parking area. The park was constructed under the Union Government's Integrated Development of Small and Medium Towns (IDSMT) scheme 20 years ago. The negligence on the part of the administration and the state machinery has already converted the park into a garbage dump. A raen basera (night shelter), too, has been constructed in the park complex.
Assistant Municipal Engineer Anil Kumar said sheds were installed in the park under which fire engines, tractor-trolleys and the vehicles of the Municipal Council would be parked. The park is being used for tying animals by residents of nearby localities. A sewage treatment plant was also constructed for Rs 20 lakh, but it was made non-operational a few years ago.
Toilet sans water supply
Constructed by the Municipal Council, the toilet booth at Palika Bazar, Tarn Taran, is without water supply for more than a month. Parkash Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Vicky and other daily users said the water supply had been stopped for the fifth time in the last four months, as a result of which the booth has become filthy and stinky. They say Executive Officer (EO) Manmohan Singh Randhawa had assured to do the needful 10 days ago, but nothing had been done so for. No safai sewak has been appointed for cleaning the toilet by the Municipal Council.
