Amritsar: A portrait of the 15th head of the Damdami Taksal was installed at the Central Sikh Museum on Thursday. The portrait was unveiled by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh in the presence of Head Granthi of the Golden Temple Giani Jagtar Singh, SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar, Damdami Taksal head Harnam Singh Khalsa and DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK. Earlier, Hazoori Raagi Bhai Lakhwinder Singh-led jatha perform kirtan. Ardas was executed by Bhai Rajdeep Singh Ardasia. Badungar said images of those Sikh personalities who have contributed to the welfare of the Sikh community had been installed at the museum. The initiative was taken to educate the younger generation about the Sikh history and struggle, the SGPC president added. Showing his gratitude, Harnam Singh Khalsa said Baba Thakur Singh had encouraged thousands of people to associate with the Sikhism through 'amrit sanchar' and preached Sikhism. TNS


5 cellphones seized from jail

The Central Jail authorities have recovered five cellphones from the jail premises during a late night inspection. The police have registered a complaint against three jail inmates — Sushan Singh, Sarwan Kumar and Karmjit Singh — for carrying cellphones. Police officials said one cellphone was recovered from Sushan Singh and Sarwan Kumar and one was recovered from Karamjit Singh. The Superintendant of Jail said three cellphones were found abandoned inside the jail. A case has been registered against the accused. Earlier on July 1, a raid was conducted by the crime branch, in which 24 cellphones were recovered from the jail. TNS
