In a major success, the city police have arrested a notorious gangster, Jasbir Singh Anngarhiya, wanted in as many as 28 different criminal cases, including murder and attempt to murder, registered in various police stations here.

Following his interrogation, the police have recovered one pistol of 9 mm with seven cartridges, a .32-bore pistol with two bullets, a .12-bore rifle with seven rounds and a stolen motorcycle from his possession.

Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh said Anngarhiya was wanted in three murders and eight attempt to murder cases besides 17 other criminal cases. He had been on the run for the past 10 months. Among other cases registered against him were those of robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, etc.

While giving details, he said the police had specific inputs about his presence in the Gate Hakima area. A naka was put up to trap him. He was arrested when he was going from Ibban Kalan village to Mulechak village on a stolen motorcycle. He said in February 2015 he had killed Harpal Singh, alias Lala, in full public view and injured three others in the Gate Hakima area. The injured were identified as Karan Singh, Mangal Singh and Charandass. He said the police had been looking for him since then, but he was evading arrest.

Similarly, in December last year, he opened fired in order to intimidate the people in his area. Following this, he was booked on the charge of attempt to murder.

Aulakh said he was hiding in other districts by impersonating. He was brought on police remand for further interrogation and more recoveries were likely to be made from him.
