City boy Gurnoor Singh (17) has done the city proud by securing the 74th All India Rank in the JEE Mains. The results were declared by the National Testing Agency late on Monday night.
Gurnoor Singh belongs to a family of doctors and engineers. His father Jasmeet Singh has an engineering background and runs a furniture business while mother Navjot Kaur is a teacher and sister Mehak Khurana is pursuing MBBS from Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research.
Gurnoor decided to pursue engineering out of his love for mathematics. “It is the love for mathematics that helped me decide upon engineering. I wish to pursue B.Tech in computer science from a premier engineering institute. Most relatives from my father’s side are into engineering while the maternal side has plenty of doctors. I chose engineering.” he said.
Gurnoor, a student of Delhi Public School, credits his parents, teachers and other family members for his success. “I am thankful to my family members. My teachers, both at Delhi Public School and FIITJEE, have played a huge role in my success,” he added.
Gurnoor scored 100 in maths, 99.99 in chemistry and 99.98 in physics. His overall marks are 345/360 with a percentile score of 99.996.
According to Gurnoor, a student should avoid mental stress during the examinations. “There is no point in taking stress as it is going to leave a negative impact on one’s performance. I did not feel stressed at all. I used to play guitar to freshen up my mind,” he added. He would be preparing for JEE-Advance to be held in May.
