Nangal youth found dead near canal

A youth, who had left for Mumbai, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Ajnala here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Deep Singh, a resident of Nangal village of Ajnala.
Manjinder Singh, SHO, Ajnala police station, said,“ We got a call from the sarpanch of Raipur village. He informed that a man was lying dead near a canal. We reached there and took the body in custody. After investigation, the victim was identified as Deep Singh.”
The family members of Deep stated that he left for Mumbai on Friday. He works as a porter on a ship in Mumbai. Harru Singh, brother of Deep Singh, said, “I had dropped him at Ajnala bus stand from where he was supposed to take a bus for Amritsar.”
The police suspect that the victim may have been an addict who met someone at the bus stand following which he took drugs. The deceased may have died of drug overdose, the police say.
“We are investigating the matter. The proceeding has been filed under Section 174 of the CrPC,” said the SHO.
