Mosquito breeding annoys residents

Amritsar, July 6
A heavy rainfall two days ago in the city left several roads and vacant plots waterlogged. Such points become a breeding ground for mosquito in no time and residents are worried over it.
Tall claims made by the Municipal Corporation (MC) regarding fogging have fallen flat as residents have been complaining of no fogging in several areas. Ironically, the MC doesn’t have the necessary chemical for fogging.
According to information, the state government had constituted a committee to fix the rate of the chemical and hire a firm to supply the same. The committee has reached a decision upon the rates of the chemical and it is yet to hire a firm. The low-lying areas, where rain water is accumulated, are facing the threat of outbreak of vector-borne diseases.
An official of the Municipal Corporation, who didn’t wish to be named, said the civic body had limited stock of the chemical. “Fogging is going on in the walled city and disease-prone areas,” he said.
