A good read, a cup of coffee and a perfect corner is every book lover’s dream. Taking a cue and creating a space for those in love with books (not e-books), Majha House has come up with Café Kikli. A small tuck in book café, lined with a specially curated book shelf, Café Kikli promises to serve two purposes – a book retreat and a literary experience.
Preeti Gill, a publishing consultant and owner of the Majha House, insists that Café Kikli is a multi-dimensional, cultural, literary space. “It functions as a pop up space in that as it opens its doors every Saturday, curating events that celebrate the joys of reading, writing and listening. In this way, as a pop up, it offers many of the same benefits as a traditional café where you can come, enjoy a cup of coffee and spend time with books and like-minded people. In addition, it promises to be a reader-friendly retreat that will also stock a few specialties, international bestsellers and books that enrich one’s intellect.”
Its opening saw celebrated Pakistani author and scholar Aneela Zeb Babar interacting with city book lovers. The absence of book café culture or even a reader-friendly space in the city, says Nazi Puri, makes this pop up space a first of its kind. Puri, who is associated with the global campaign Book Fairy, has helped curate the books for Café Kikli.
