The renovation work on all historic gates, located on the boundary of the old walled city, is in full swing under the National Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) scheme. There are 12 gates around the walled city. Out of these only seven gates exist.

These gates had been crying for attention for long. The Central government-sponsored HRIDAY scheme has provided sufficient funds for the conservation of gates. The conservation work on the Hall Gate, which is the main entrance point of the city, is about to complete.

The conservation experts are doing the renovation of the gates with modern bricks, which have similar size used by the British rulers.

Gurmeet Rai, conservation expert, said, “We will not construct any new gate. We will renovate the existing gates. The work is going on and it will be completed soon. We will also preserve the boundary wall, which is the real heritage of the city. The other beatification projects within the Circular Road will be implemented under the Smart City project.”
