Vintage coins preserved at Khalsa Heritage Centre Science and Technology, situated on the premises of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), will be made available in digital form at the Punjab Digital Library.
The library, in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh, has begun the process for digitising the antique coins to make these accessible online.
Under the digitisation process, along with pictures there will be detailed descriptions of the coins.
The coins also include those released during the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Duleep Singh. Most of the coins are made of silver and brass. Persian and Punjabi texts are embossed on these.
Dr Hardesh Kumar Arora, caretaker of the centre, said, “The project is underway. The coins will be displayed at the website soon.”
Officials say it would make available the vintage coins just at a click. The centre preserves around 3,000 traditional coins.
