Digital inauguration for new GNDU hostel by Smriti Irani
Amritsar, June 3
A newly-constructed boys’ hostel at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) here was today digitally inaugurated by Minister of Human Resource Development, Smriti Zubin Irani, from Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi.
The hostel has been constructed under the Rashtriya Ucch Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore.
The minister simultaneously launched 10 such other initiatives completed under the national scheme launched in 2013 across the country. In her video conference address, she said the RUSA aimed at providing strategic funding to eligible higher educational institutions.
She said the funding to the states was made on the basis of critical appraisal of state higher education plans which describe the strategy to address issues of equity, access and excellence in higher education.
She also congratulated the institutes where inauguration of model degree colleges, foundation stone-laying of new model degree colleges, inauguration of labs, libraries, digital classrooms and digital e-content and learning modules, languages labs, online admissions and state RUSA portals and release of gender sensitisation course and hostel building was held.
Surjit Singh Rakhra, Higher Education Minister, Punjab, delivered his address from Chandigarh. Prof NS Tung, Dean, Academic Affairs, interacted with the minister on behalf of the university and gave details of the achievements of the university.
Prof AS Brar, Vice-Chancellor; Prof Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar; Prof KS Kahlon, Dean, Students Welfare and Prof TS Banipal, Director, Research, besides other senior officials and students of the university were also present on the occasion. — TNS
