Amritsar, February 25
Baljinder Kaur, who claims to be the real sister of Sarbjit Singh, today alleged that Dalbir Kaur cheated the government by hiding the fact that Dalbir is not the real sister of Sarbjit, who was killed in Pakistan’s Kot Lakhpat Jail in 2013.
Addressing a press conference here, she said they had not reached any agreement. Baljinder added that she was pursuing the matter in the court to bring out the truth in public.
Over the delay in disclosing the reality, she said the Union and state governments were in talks with her over the release of Sarbjit. It was their duty to know the truth, whether they were communicating with the real family members of Sarbjit.
She accused Dalbir Kaur of pocketing a huge amount released on compassionate grounds after the death of Sarbjit. Baljinder claimed that she possesses all documents to prove her claim.
“Swapandeep Kaur was fraudulently shown as the elder daughter of Sarbjit, which is not so. In reality, she is the daughter of Dalbir,” Baljinder Kaur said.
Swapandeep was given the job of Naib Tehsildar on compassionate grounds by the Punjab government. Besides, both Dalbir and Swapandeep were given Rs 25 lakh each. Sarabjit had only one daughter, Poonam Atwal, who was given a gas agency by the government, maintained Baljinder.
She demanded the DNA test of Swapandeep and Dalbir to match with Sarabjit’s wife Sukhpreet Kaur. “Before coming into contact with my family, Dalbir and her mother came from J&K,” she said.
