The District Library is hosting a two-day book exhibition under its National Reading Mission programme that encourages the habit of reading among youngsters. A collection of Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu books, besides some of the best literary works from the library’s own collection are on display.
“The purpose of the exhibition is to allow people an access to different genres of books we have. It will generate readers’ interest who can pick them up later,” said Prabhjot Sandhu, the librarian.
“We have been celebrating June 18 to July 18 as the national reading month under the reading mission announced by the Central Government. So, we have been hosting a lot of activities to create awareness regarding public libraries and reading culture. The exhibition is an attempt to reach out to young readers,” she added.
Eminent citizens too have been visiting the exhibition with an aim to deliver message of developing public libraries as centres of learning and community bonding rather than just storage houses for books.
