107 attend hiking, trekking camp of Guru Nanak Dev University

A hiking and tracking camp for girls was organised at Students Holiday Home of Guru Nanak Dev University in Dalhousie.

This camp was organised by the Department of Youth Welfare of the university. As many as 107 students and their teachers from 15 affiliated colleges of the university participated in the adventure activities during the camp.

The team of PCMSD College, Jalandhar, was adjudged the best disciplined team whereas the team of DIPS College, Dhilwan, stood second during the camp.

Similarly, Kajal Mahajan of Pt Mohan Lal SD College for Women, Gurdaspur, was adjudged the best camper and Nischal Kumari of SSM College, Dina Nagar, came second.

Prof Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, registrar of the university, was the chief guest and Prof Amarjit Singh Sidhu, dean, students’ welfare, presided over the valedictory function. Dr Rupinder Kaur and Paramjit Kaur were the guests of honour on the occasion.

Gurdip Singh, section officer, audit branch of the university, was the special guest on this occasion. Dr Jagjit Kaur, director, youth welfare, welcomed the chief guest and others.

Prof Dhillon said students should participate in various camps, youth festivals and other constructive activities along with their studies. He advised the campers to respect their elders, teachers and parents to achieve success in life.

While congratulating students, Prof Sidhu said girls should excel in this male dominated society by achieving self-dependent status through their studies.
