Celebrating works of Punjabi poet Parminderjit, who passed away last year, the Akhar Sahit Manch has launched a special edition of ‘Akhar’ magazine.
While re-launching the four-decade-old magazine in a press conference here today, the committee comprising Punjabi writers Parminder Singh Sodhi and Dr Karnail Singh, said the first release will be of 80 page special edition. They said as many as 1,000 copies of the magazine would be distributed across the literary circle and among readers.
Talking about the content and new design, Dr Vikram, one of the executive members of the Akhar Sahit Manch says, “The special edition has Parminderjit’s poem on the cover with his picture. The magazine comprises features and write-ups about the celebrated poet, who single handedly, published the magazine even during the time of the emergency. Some copies of the new magazine will be sent to overseas readers.”
While design and core editorial committee of ‘Akhar’ has been changed, the basic structure remains same. “We will include features on social issues along with works of upcoming Punjabi poets and writers. ‘Akhar’ always acted as a social mouthpiece and a platform for budding literary talent to show their skills. And we will continue to uphold this tradition,” said Dr Vikram.
