Adampur on aviation map, but for some flight a little too costly

The maiden flight of Spice Jet from Delhi to Adampur landed at the domestic airport at 4.40 pm here on Tuesday. The passengers were given a rousing welcome. 

Among the first passengers were Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla, Jalandhar MP Santokh Chaudhary, state BJP president Shwait Malik, prominent industrialists and members of the Doaba Airport Welfare Association. 

Chaudhary was received by Cabinet Minister Sunder Sham Arora on behalf of the state government. 

Sampla said the air service would play a key role in the transformation of the entire Doaba region. “Besides providing connectivity, it will also boost employment generation,” Sampla said. 

While the airlines operator had announced a limited period special introductory all-inclusive one-way fare of Rs 2,062 for Delhi-Adampur and Rs 1,953 for Adampur-Delhi, some passengers paid up to Rs 7,000 for the return flight to Delhi. 

Passenger claims she was overcharged

While the SpiceJet had announced that it will not charge for extra baggage from NRIs who would include the connecting flight to Adampur in their international travel itinerary, Rajwinder Kaur, a passenger hailing from Garhdiwala village in Hoshiarpur, was asked to pay extra baggage charges which were over three times the ticket fare. Kaur was travelling from New Zealand and took a connecting flight from New Delhi. Though she paid Rs 2,336, including the baggage fare, she was asked to pay additional Rs 6,000 for the extra baggage.
