Ludhiana, July 29

College of Fisheries (COF), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University organised a three-day capacity building training programme on ‘Intensive Aquaculture Systems’ to promote intensive aquaculture technologies (IAQTs) such as recirculatory aquaculture system (RAS) and biofloc-based aquaculture system (BFAS) in the region. Seventeen aspiring stakeholders, including farmers, farm women, entrepreneurs and students from various districts of the state participated in the programme.

Dr Meera D Ansal, dean, COF, said that a Capacity Building Resource Centre for IAQTs was recently established at the university under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) of the Department of Fisheries, GoI. This was a first-of-its-kind initiative in the northern region, mandated to undertake capacity building of stakeholders from across India, to promote climate sensitive water saving IAQTs, she added. Dr Ansal said training of candidates from Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Madhya Pradesh was scheduled for August through October.

The programme, coordinated by Dr Vaneet Inder Kaur, featuring technical sessions and detailed practical demonstrations was executed by technical coordinators Dr SN Datta and Dr Amit Mandal.
