‘June 4 will go down as ModiMukti Diwas’: Congress hits back at government for declaring June 25 as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’
New Delhi, July 12
Reacting to the Central Government move of declaring June 25, the day Emergency was declared in 1975, as “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas”, Congress on Friday proposed naming June 4 (when the results of the last General Elections were announced) as “ModiMukti Diwas”.
Taking to X, Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary in-charge of communications, wrote, “Yet another headline grabbing exercise in hypocrisy by the non-biological PM who had imposed an undeclared Emergency for ten long years before the people of India handed him a decisive personal, political, and moral defeat on June 4, 2024 – which will go down in history as ModiMukti Diwas”.
Ramesh said Modi subjected Constitution of India and its principles, values, and institutions to systematic assault. The PM’s ideological parivar had rejected the Constitution of India in November 1949 on the grounds that it did not derive inspiration from Manusmriti, he said.
“This is a non-biological PM for whom democracy means only demo-kursi”, Ramesh said.
Protection of the Constitution has as a big issue in the country’s political arena with the Opposition parties accusing the Modi-led BJP of planning to change the Constitution. BJP, on the other hand, is trying to turn the table on the Congress by citing the 1975 Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Later, Ramesh also shared the video from Prime Minister Modi’s November 8, 2016, speech when he announced demonetisation.
“From now on, every year on 8th November, people of India will celebrate ‘Aajivika Hatya Diwas (Livelihood Killing Day)’. Its gazette notification will also be issued soon,” Ramesh said in another post on X.
