Youth festival off to colourful start at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar

500 student-artists will participate in the festival spread over two days

The D-Zone (Kapurthala, Nawanshahr district colleges) Youth Festival of Guru Nanak Dev University began with a bang as fierce bhangra competitions kept the students’ spirits high. Prof Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dean Students’ Welfare, said that 500 student-artists from various colleges affiliated to the university from Kapurthala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) will participate in 36 items at the festival spread over two days.

The festival will be organised at various venues in the university campus including Dasmesh Auditorium, Guru Nanak Bhavan Auditorium, Conference Hall and Architecture Department.

Dr Amandeep Singh, in-charge, Youth Welfare Department, said that competitions in Bhangra, Gidha, General dance, Western vocal solo, Western group song, Western instrumental solo and Folk orchestra, Vaar singing, Kavishri, Classical vocal solo, Classical Instrumental (Percussion), Classical Instrumental (Non-percussion) were organised today. Competitions in costume parade, mime, mimicry, skit and one- act play along with ghazal and other performing arts will be held on October 30.
