Woman killed by husband in Amritsar

A woman was killed by her husband in Greenfield area on Majitha Road here on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Ritu, had given birth to a handicapped boy who did not have one hand since birth, her family alleged.

Following their complaint, the police have booked her husband Vishnu Mahajan and father and brother Avinash Mahajan and Dinesh Mahajan, respectively on charges of murder.

Vinod Kumar, SHO Sadar police station, said that they have arrested Vishnu and Avinash while efforts were on to arrest Dinesh who was absconding. He said the incident occurred at around 4.30 am when the victim was sleeping.  

The prime accused repeatedly stabbed the victim on her neck with a sharp knife. She was immediately rushed to a hospital by other family members but the doctors declared her dead, he said.

Poonam, a resident of Mahan Singh Gate area and mother of the deceased, said that Ritu married Vishnu around 10 years ago. She alleged that after a few months of their marriage, he and his family members started harassing her daughter. Vishnu did not do any work. Poonam alleged after the birth of their son, they continued to harass her.
