Woman found murdered in hotel room, paramour held

A woman identified as Jaspal Kaur, a resident of Sardulgarh in Mansa district, was found murdered in room of a hotel near the Golden Temple here on Wednesday.
She was strangled to death. Illicit relations were cited as the reason behind the incident. The police have arrested a suspect identified as Sukhchain Singh, a resident Dhan Singh village in Bathinda district, in this connection. A case has been registered following the statement of victim’s husband identified as Balwinder Singh.

The complainant told the police that Sukhchian had been working as welder at his workshop for past over one year. He said the suspect had won trust of his family members and used to visit their house frequently. Balwinder said the suspect developed illicit relations with his wife. He said when they came to know about this, he fired the suspect from the job at his workshop.
Balwinder alleged that despite this, the suspect used to frequently call and harass his wife and forced her to enter into illicit relations with him. Sukhchian had also threatened to kill their son, the complainant said.
Balwinder said that his wife told him about this a number of times. A week ago, Jaspal Kaur left home on pretext of going to a pilgrimage, the complainant said. He said two days ago, when she called on their son’s mobile phone she seemed very upset. She alleged that Sukhchian had called her and threatened to kill their family, the complainant said. She told Balwinder on cellphone that the suspect had taken her to the Golden Temple after visiting several religious places. She also told Balwinder that the suspect would kill her.
The complainant said he, along with his relatives, reached Amritsar and started searching for his wife. He came to know from someone that a woman was murdred in a hotel room and her body was kept in the mortuary of a hospital for identification. The complainant said he went the mortuary and found that it was his wife’s body.
Harsandeep Singh, SHO, Kotwali police station, said the suspect Sukhchain had been arrested. He had strangled the victim to death, the SHO said. A case had been registered in this connection, the SHO added.
