Gangster shot dead in encounter near Beas, accomplice escapes by jumping into river
A notorious gangster of Harike, Gursharan Singh, was killed in an encounter with police near the Beas river on Wednesday, while his accomplice, Paras Singh of Noordi village, managed to escape by jumping into the river. The duo was responsible for the murder of commission agent Gurdeep Singh alias Gokha, who was shot dead in broad daylight in Sathiala, Baba Bakala sub-division, a week ago.
The Amritsar rural police had arrested three suspects, including Gursharan and Paras, from Manali in Himachal Pradesh, and brought them to the Beas police station for interrogation. During the probe, they confessed to hiding weapons in the Mand area. When taken to the spot to recover the weapons, Gursharan and Paras attacked the police, leading to a shootout that resulted in Gursharan’s death.
DIG Border Range Satinder Singh said that the police are working with Kapurthala and Tarn Taran police to apprehend Paras Singh.
The police seized a 9 mm Glock pistol and some bullets from the crime scene.
Hours after the murder of Gurdeep Singh, gangster Satpreet Singh alias Satta Naushehra of Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike gang has taken responsibility of the murder. Gurdeep Singh was a friend of rival gangster Balwinder Singh Donny of the Munn Ghanshampuria gang currently in Portugal.
Landa Harike was declared a terrorist by the Indian government in December last year for various terrorist activities, murder and extortion cases.
