Panic gripped Bhalla Colony in the Chheharta area after two youth fired outside a house yesterday evening. The suspects took away empty shells from the spot after opening fire. The incident was captured in the footage of the CCTV camera installed in the area following which the police identified the suspects.

Shiv Darshan Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), denied that it was handiwork of gangsters or their associates. He said the incident was the outcome of personal enmity.

According to information, two youth fired several gunshots outside residence of Avdhesh Kumar, a resident at Bhalla Colony. The CCTV footage of the incident soon went viral on social media raising concerns over the law and order situation in the holy city.

The ACP said during investigation, the suspects were identified as Mainder Singh and Nikhil Kumar, both residents of Bhalla Colony. They had a dispute with Avdhesh Kumar. The ACP said there was no criminal record of the two youth. The youth could not produce licence or any other document of the weapon, the ACP said. So, they were arrested and a case under the Arms Act was registered against them, he added. The source of the weapon would also be ascertained, the ACP said.

Further investigation was in progress in this connection, the ACP said.
