Two nabbed with 1.5-kg heroin

The Gharinda police seized 1.5 kg of heroin after arresting two persons at the Jhanjhoti village turn here on late Thursday evening. They were identified as Akashdeep Singh and William Masih, both residents of Kandial village.

Gurinderpal Singh Nagra, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Attari, and Manmeetpal Singh, SHO, Gharinda police station, said a team of cops was on patrol in the Khasa and India Gate areas when they got a tip-off that two youths were having drugs near Jhanjhoti village and waiting for clients to further supply the same.

Following this, the police team immediately rushed to the spot and nabbed the two youths who were wearing black and red jackets. During the search, the police seized three packets containing around 1.5 kg of the contraband. The police also impounded their bike.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the contraband was apparently smuggled with the help of a drone. The three small packets were wrapped in adhesive tapes. The accused were produced in a local court today and brought on police remand for further investigations.

A case under Sections 21, 215, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the duo. Their credentials were also being verified by the police. Cops were also investigating how much drugs they had smuggled and supplied so far. Their backward and forward linkages were also being probed.
