Amritsar, July 12
Following the lead in the seizure of Rs 1.10 lakh drug money from a drug peddler in Bhindi Saidan village over two months ago, the Amritsar (Rural) police have arrested two persons for allegedly possessing 1.5 kg of heroin here.
They were identified as Kulwinder Singh and Jobanpreet Singh, both residents of the Dera Baba Nanak area, Batala, Gurdaspur district.
Satinder Singh, SSP, Amritsar (Rural), today said the duo was travelling on a bike (bearing registration number PB-46-AG-4878) when they were intercepted by a police patrolling party. During search, the police recovered 1.5 kg of the contraband smuggled from Pakistan with the help of drones, the SSP said.
On April 20, the Punjab Police in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF) had arrested a drug peddler identified as Sukhdev Singh and recovered Rs 1.10 lakh drug money following his disclosure. Besides Kulwinder Singh, the police had also named Gurnam Singh of Ballarwal village, Ajnala, in the FIR registered in this connection.
The SSP said, “Sukhdev has a history of narcotics smuggling through drones in Sahowal, Ballarwal, Dug Toot and Ghoga villages located near the international border.”
During interrogation, Sukhdev gave crucial information to the police regarding concealed drug money in Samrai village of Gurdaspur district. After his disclosure, the BSF and the Punjab Police successfully recovered Rs 1 lakh drug money from Kulwinder’s place. Sukhdev told the police that an amount of Rs 40,000 was paid to him by Kulwinder out of which he had already spent Rs 30,000. The remaining amount was recovered from him.
Sukhdev was in touch with Pakistan-based drug peddler identified as Bhullar. He had come in contact with Bhullar through Kulwinder who was his relative. He told the police that on April 18, they got 2 kg of heroin smuggled through Bhullar to Sahowal village. The contraband was further handed over to another unknown person by Kulwinder.
