Three drug traffickers held with heroin, revolver
The Gharinda police have arrested three cross-border drug traffickers and recovered 450 gm of heroin and a .32 bore revolver along with four live rounds from their possession.
All the suspects belonged to different areas of Tarn Taran district. They were identified as Akashdeep Singh of Mastgarh village in Khemkaran (now Valtoha), Gurbax Singh, alias Babbal, of Patti and Simranpreet Singh of Mugal Chakk Pannuan village. They were arrested from Khasa area.
SSP, Amritsar rural, Charanjit Singh said the police got an intelligence input that the trio was involved in cross-border trafficking of the contraband and weapons and supply them in different parts of border belt. The informer told them that they were going from Chheharta to the Gharinda side in a car (PB-08-BQ-2179) when a police team intercepted the car and recovered the heroin and a revolver.
A case under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act has been registered against them and further probe was on to identify their backward and forward links. More recoveries are likely to be made during further probe, said the SSP. They were produced in a court and brought on police remand.
