The Health Department has warned residents against any laxity in view of the change in weather conditions and asked them to continue their vigil for mosquitoes breeding at their places. The health experts said sometimes, dengue and malaria viruses infected people when temperature decreases.

Civil Surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur said, “Some of us might feel as the winters are approaching, the viruses would become ineffective. However, it has been seen that mosquito-borne diseases continue to trouble people till there is a substantial change in weather conditions.” She said at this stage people needed to continue to protect themselves from mosquito borne diseases. She said all must devote at least one day a week to ensure that no mosquitoes were breeding in their houses or workplace.

District Epidemiologist Dr Harjot Kaur said mosquito-borne diseases were easily preventable and proper precautions could help people stay healthy. She added residents should take ample precautions.
