Striving to increase hydropower generation, says Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO

Minister of Power and Public Works, Punjab, Harbhajan Singh ETO, today said, “The power department has broken all records of electricity supply this summer and set new milestones.”

Addressing the event organised on theme “Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya” to mark the 75th anniversary of Independence Day at BBKDAV College, the Cabinet Minister said this time on June 29, the department had supplied 14,208 MW of electricity, which is a record so far.
He said the state’s thermal and hydro production was close to 6,500 MW, while the rest of the power supply was taken through transmission. “We are striving to increase solar and hydro power generation in future. For this, the department is resorting to new technologies, which are being implemented in Ludhiana first. Today, electricity has become the primary means of implementing the right to life granted by the Constitution, because electricity also fulfils our needs of water and air,” he said.
He said 600 units of free electricity was being provided to every household. Deputy Commissioner Harpreet was also present during the event.
