State level counselling for admission
Amritsar: With a record number of 4,869 candidates registering for the first round of counselling, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) is conducting state level counselling for admission to BA-LLB, BCom-LLB and BBA-LLB programmes. Amit Kauts, coordinator for the counselling, said a dedicated team has been working since March to facilitate the process for all state universities, their regional campuses/centres, and affiliated colleges. Thirty-six law colleges, with an intake capacity of around 3,600 seats across the mentioned programmes, are participating in the counselling. In the first round of counselling, the cut-off for the general category stands at 94.8 per cent for the GNDU campus. Offline admission counselling sessions have commenced for admission to BA-LLB, BCom-LLB, and BBA-LLB at the GNDU campus, its regional campuses, and affiliated colleges. The second and third rounds of counselling shall commence on July 20 and August 3, respectively. The candidates who have not been allotted any seat or did not get the seat in the previous counselling will have to apply for the second/third round as per the details provided. The candidates who have been allotted a seat in the first round shall report to the allotted campus or college with the requisite documents, latest by July 17, during the first round of scheduled counselling.
NSS Volunteers plant saplings
NSS volunteers of DAV College, Amritsar, planted saplings at their homes, under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. Volunteers were exhorted to plant new saplings to make the environment pollution-free. The motive of this programme was to make the students aware about the environment and challenges related to it. Principal Amardeep Gupta said the college always appreciates such efforts made by the students and urges them to contribute in protecting the environment.
Plantation drive carried out
Mangal Singh Kishanpuri, director of SSEC Group of Schools, and patron, Kishanpuri Foundation, along with Rotary Club (Aastha) kicked off a plantation drive to pant 5,000 saplings. He said that as many as 8,000 plants in 2022-23 and 5,000 in 2023-24 were planted by the school. DFO Amneet Singh and municipal committee members were also part of it. Everyone took a pledge to take care of the plants. Mangal Singh Kishanpuri said that if anyone wanted saplings, he was just a call away.

Directorate of Placement and Career Enhancement of Guru Nanak Dev University recently organised a campus placement drive for Gujarat Gas Company, in which four students — two from MBA and two from BTech (Mechanical) — were selected and offered jobs with an annual package of eight lakh and six lakh per annum. Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu congratulated the selected students and wished them a good future. Director Amit Chopra said Gujarat Gas Limited is India’s largest city gas distribution company, operating in several states and Union Territories. Various other companies in IT, consulting, hospitality, planning, logistics, engineering sectors also recruited students from various faculties in this academic year.
DAV College gets AICTE recognition
DAV College, Hoshiarpur, has received recognition from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for its BBA and BCA courses. Principal Vinay Kumar said these courses had been successfully running in affiliation with Panjab University, Chandigarh, for a long time. From 2024 onwards, due to the technical nature of these courses, the AICTE required the college to obtain recognition from the council. Anoop Kumar, president of the College Managing Committee, and DL Anand, secretary, congratulated the principal and staff on this achievement.
