Sportspersons with disabilities shine at North Zone Special Olympics

The participants from Sahej Half Way Home competed in the 25th Punjab State Special Olympics 2024, winning accolades across various events

The North Zone Special Olympics Games were held in Ludhiana.

Students of Sahej Half Way Home, Amritsar, under the Social Security and Women and Child Development Department, brought glory to the district by excelling at the North Zone Special Olympics Games held in Ludhiana. The organisation, which supports girls with special needs, saw its athletes achieve outstanding results under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner.

The participants from Sahej Half Way Home competed in the 25th Punjab State Special Olympics 2024, winning accolades across various events. They secured first and second place in the 100-meter race, second place in shot put, and first and third place in the Bocce game. Overall, the girls claimed three gold medals, three silver medals and six bronze medals.

District Social Security Officer Meena Devi highlighted that this was not the first time the institution’s athletes had achieved such recognition. She noted that the department frequently encourages children with special needs to participate in various competitions to foster their talent and confidence.

Additionally, children from the All Indian Pingalwara Charitable Society also made the district proud. Nineteen students from the society participated in events such as shot put, powerlifting, and floor hockey, winning a remarkable total of 14 gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals.

The achievements of these young athletes underscore the importance of inclusive sports and the tremendous potential of children with special needs. Their victories serve as an inspiration for the community and highlight the role of sports in empowering individuals with disabilities.
