Sidhu couple enjoys tea at stall in Amritsar
Famous Giani Tea Stall on the Cooper Road here had an unexpected 'special' guest on Sunday when cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu visited it to have their morning tea.
Sidhu also shared a video clip on social media. Visibly elated, Sidhu said it was after four months that he was taking his wife on a day out in Amritsar.
The Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan test conducted on her in Amritsar had testified that she was clinically cancer free.
Dr Sidhu blushed when Sidhu praised her with the famous Bollywood number ‘Ye chand sa roshan chehra…zulfo ka rang sunehra’ and also danced to the tune of the song.
On reaching the tea stall, Sidhu met its proprietor warmly. “Eh visit ‘Noni’ (Dr Sidhu’s pet name) de theek hon di khushi vich hai (This visit is to express happiness on my wife’s recovery),” said Sidhu.
Dressed in their best, the couple preferred to sit on wooden stools alongside other visitors and took tea in ‘glassi’ (glasses) instead of cups.
Sidhu also praised the tea served to them in his one-liner — “Gulistan me ja ke har gul ko dekha…na teri chai jaise rangat hai, na teri chai jaise khushboo hai (Watched every flower in the flowerbed, but no flower had the colour and scent like your tea).”
Speaking about ‘kachauri’, Sidhu jokingly said to his wife, “You can just smell its aroma and watch it, but can never eat it. Only I will eat it.”
He also exchanged pleasantries with passers-by, who halted to have a glimpse of the couple.
