The drug disposal committee of the city and Amritsar (Rural) police today destroyed narcotics seized from drug peddlers during the past several months. Drug disposal team led by Police Commissioner (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar today destroyed drugs through the incineration method at the Khanna Paper mill here.
The narcotics, including heroin, intoxicants and powder, were confiscated in 47 criminal cases in the past, said Bhullar. The city police destroyed 7 kg of heroin, over 8.39 lakh intoxicant tablets and capsules, over 45,000 sedative injections, 1.2 kg of narcotic powder, 2.98 kg of charas and half kg of ganja.
Bhullar said the Punjab Police was committed to eradicate the menace of drugs from society. He said the police had made huge seizures in the recent past and smashed drug cartels operating from foreign shores. He said the people should also come forward and join hands with the department to end the menace.
Similarly, the Amritsar (Rural) police destroyed drugs seized in 50 cases. Drug disposal committee headed by Gurpartap Singh Sahota, Superintendent of Police (SP), destroyed 14.5 kg of heroin, 1.3 kg of narcotic powder and 12,585 sedative pills and capsules.
